Acquired Aorto-Right Ventricular Fistula following Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement
Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) techniques are rapidly evolving, and results of published trials suggest that TAVR is emerging as the standard of care in certain patient subsets and a viable alternative to surgery in others. As TAVR is a relatively new procedure and continues to gain its acceptance, rare procedural complications will continue to appear. Our case is about an 89-yea...

Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is a novel therapeutic intervention for the replacement of severely stenotic aortic valves in high-risk patients for standard surgical procedures. Since the initial PARTNER trial results, use of TAVR has been on the rise each year. New delivery methods and different valves have been developed and modified in order to promote the minimally invasive p...
متن کاملUnusual complication after aortic valve replacement.
We present a report of a postoperative left ventricular-right atrial (LV-RA) communication after aortic valve replacement. Such intracardiac defects are rare but encountered occasionally after valve surgery. The diagnosis was made by use of transesophageal echocardiography with echo-Doppler and color-flow imaging. Complications of LV-RA shunts and differential diagnosis are discussed.

Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) has transformed aortic stenosis therapy, with greater than 200,000 procedures performed worldwide since the first case was performed by the French interventional cardiologist Alain Cribier in 2002. One rare but dreaded complication is aortic periannular rupture, seen in less than 1% of all TAVR procedures. Although TAVR is a safe procedure, with an ...

Manuscript received January 7, 2016; accepted January 14, 2016. tomography scan showed an aortic annulus measuring 482 cm with an area-derived diameter of 24.8 mm and prominent calcifications at the sinotubular junction (Figure 1). An Edwards SAPIEN 3 (S3) 26-mm valve (Edwards Lifesciences, Irvine, California) was accordingly implanted via a left femoral approach. However, at the end of the val...
